Annual United Adult Ministries Award Winners to be Honored at Annual Gala
Flushing, New York, April 13, 2018 – United Adult Ministries, the parent company of Flushing House, will honor six outstanding persons with the Leadership in the Community, Service in the Community, Advocate for Older Adults & Older Adult Ministry Awards at this year’s annual fundraising gala on Thursday, May 17th at Leonard’s Palazzo in Great Neck, NY.
The award winners must have established, operated or expanded programs that benefit the older adult population, have a track record of advocacy, and secured funding for senior programs. This year’s recipients include John Choe, Executive Director of Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce, Nick Lampiasi, Senior Regional Director for Fox Rehabilitation Services, Nelson Lee, VP Branch Manager, Flushing Bank, Annette Cappello & Lucille Winsko, AARP.
This year’s program will also include the prestigious ‘Older Adult Ministry Award’ which recognizes an individual from the Presbytery of New York City, Presbytery of Long Island or the Reformed Church of America whose service and commitment to older adults exemplifies the love of Jesus Christ. This year’s honoree is Betty C. Jones, MSW, Old First Church.

Built in 1974, Flushing House is a not-for-profit retirement residence, and was one of the first to offer older adults independent living with supportive services on-premises. Residents Flaunt Vintage Styles During Fashion Show
While the world’s top models walked the runway during New York’s 2018 Fashion Week, the ‘Boro’s Best’ retirement community was walking a runway of their own. Starting from an idea imagined by Flushing House Culinary employee, Nazima Pasha, a resident fashion show was created with the goal to showcase vintage garments from years past while providing an afternoon of entertainment for the community.Read More
FH Culinary Staff gives back
Recently the Culinary Team at Flushing House cooked up something special for children this holiday season. As a part of the New York Cares Winter Wishes program, the team was matched up with three children, Bryan, age 5, Hunter age 4, and Wariel, age 5 who sent in letters to Santa Claus of their holiday wishes. FH Residents Treated to an Afternoon of Song
During a rainy Sunday in November, the 300 residents of Flushing House were treated to ‘An Afternoon of Song,’ featuring performers from the studios of Jessy and Judy Tomsko. For just over an hour, an eclectic mix of music was played to an audience of residents, families and friends. The music ranged from Russian Folk Songs to classics such as ‘Blackbird’ by the Beatles. It even included some current pop songs and a musical number from Broadway’s hit musical, Hamilton.Read More
